The Curious Angler is still around after another year. What another fun, challenging, and memorable year running this fly fishing blog. Thank you to all who follow along; it means the world to me. In this article, I share an update on the blog and my plans for the future
2024 Blog Review
The Curious Angler is a fly fishing blog documenting my journey fishing in the Yellowstone Region. I share what I learn along with my struggles, hoping it helps my readers on the water and documents my journey for my future self to reflect on. To read more about The Curious Angler, check out the article “Why The Curious Angler?” or visit the About page.
My greatest goal with The Curious Angler is to enjoy running it for a long time and help other anglers along the way. With that in mind, reflecting on the blog numbers is interesting as they give me insight into what my readers enjoy most and how I can do better going forward.

Since starting the blog in the spring of 2023, I have posted 83 articles or photo galleries. In 2024, I posted 52 blog posts. One of my goals this year was to post one article per week, which I am proud to say I accomplished. It was a busy year for me as I worked full-time, got married, and fished almost every weekend. Being able to keep up on the blog through all this is something I am incredibly proud of as I reflect on the year.
According to the Google Analytics report, the website received 2,792 views from 1,080 active users in 2024. It’s still unbelievable to me that people read my articles. Thanks to all of you who read my blog posts and follow The Curious Angler.
The most viewed articles in 2024 included
Best Flies For Fishing In Yellowstone National Park (161 views)
A Beginners Guide To Stillwater Fly Fishing (107 views)
Fishing On Ladders- Pyramid Lake Fishing Recap (106 views)
Seeing the blog’s progress over the last year is incredible, and I am grateful for all my readers. I am humbled to know that anglers from all around the West took some time to read an article of mine this year.

I love knowing people are reading the content I put out, but as I’ve said before, the success of The Curious Angler will not be determined by a Google Analytics report. The blog is successful as long as I enjoy keeping up on the website, writing articles, developing my skills, and connecting with other anglers who love fishing in the Yellowstone Region. It brings me the most joy when you reach out and start a conversation, and I have learned so much from my readers this year. Again, thank you.
Reflection and Plans Going Forward
At the start of 2024, I shared my goals for The Curious Angler. I wanted to recap those goals and share my plans for the future with The Curious Angler.
As I already mentioned, one of my goals was to post one article a week to share in the weekly email. I am proud to say I was able to do that this year, and I plan to continue writing one article per week. If you want to receive these weekly emails, sign up at the bottom of the home page.
SEO content was not my focus this year, and as I have learned more about it, it will probably not be my primary focus. I love writing about fly fishing to help anglers fishing in the Yellowstone Region, not for Google. I will continue to be aware of how my articles show to Google and try to incorporate SEO, but not sacrifice my writing style or the uniqueness of the blog post.
I am currently working on a new page for The Curious Angler called the “Fly Box.” In the fly box, I will share my favorite flies for the various hatches we have in the region. I believe many of you will enjoy this page, so I am excited to get it up and running. This is a major project that will take some time, so expect each hatch to go live one at a time. The pictures will be the most challenging part for me. Hopefully, before prime hatch season, I have this page complete for my readers to use. Stay tuned!

My first article posted on another website went live last week. Check it out here.
I do my best to share valuable insights and document the region’s beauty in my blog posts. I hope the articles do not come off as “look at me” posts. It is the last thing I want my blog to be. The Curious Angler is just as much for you as it is for me. If a post is not helpful, insightful, or entertaining to my readers, I believe I am doing something wrong. In 2025, I will continue to share insights and stories as I go along my journey as an angler, focusing on the fish, places, and techniques.
The weekly email is an aspect of the blog that has grown in 2024. I have changed the email this year to make it more beneficial to those who subscribe and more enjoyable for me to send each week. In the weekly email, I share the most recent blog post, a weekend fishing report (more of an overview) for the region, and the flies I tied that week. So far, 26 readers receive the email, and many have shared how much they enjoy it. Hearing this is amazing, and I would love to see that number double in 2025.

I look forward to another year running The Curious Angler and fishing the Greater Yellowstone Region. I have many article ideas for the year and many more fisheries to explore. If you have any topics you would like to learn more about, please reach out, as I would love to add them to my list of future blog posts. I hope you have a few fishing trips planned for the year and have a fantastic start to the year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Stay curious,
Nick
